The frog fastenings are the first thing you notice: three on each side of the chest, made of black cord coiled into spirals and joined in the centre by an openwork silver clasp set with a black stone. They recall the knot buttons of traditional Chinese clothing, and Punk Rave pairs them here with a short black velvet jacket with a mandarin collar and puffed shoulders.
The front curves open towards the sides and reveals a central velvet panel, fastened with covered buttons, that ends in a point like a waistcoat. The edges of that opening are trimmed with black scalloped lace and a row of silver metal buttons. It is a period-cut jacket to wear over high-necked shirts, with skinny trousers or long skirts; the trousers and shirt in the photos are not included.
Key features
- Back lacing: at waist level there is crossed velvet ribbon lacing that lets you adjust the waist.
- Back flare: at the back, below the lacing, the jacket opens into a small flare over the hips.
- Metal buttons: the silver buttons along the trim carry an embossed floral motif.
- Satin-look lining: the inside is lined in softly shiny black polyester, visible through the front opening.
- Visible topstitching: the seams on the back, sleeves and cuffs have light grey topstitching on the velvet.
